Here at Amara Place, our vibrant life team is in charge of bringing the fun to seniors lives. Whether that is through planning large holiday events, special events designed for specific residents, outings to plays, parks, restaurants etc. in the  area or everyday activity programming within Amara Place, as the VLA you will have the chance to get involved in all of these things! 

We're looking for a VLA who is excited to work in a team and is ready to execute tasks assigned to you by me, as well as contribute ideas and work independently on special projects that will help make our community top notch. 

PURPOSE:

Activity Leader, organizes and implements specialized activities for seniors with cognitive disabilities living in our Assisted Living and Memory Care community. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
• Leads daily activities in a group setting 
• Prepares background materials and conducts research for activities 
• Tracks weekly activity participation 
• Maintains regular and consistent communication with the department manager, colleagues, caregivers, and Nurses
• Ensures a safe and secure environment for residents in the program

Job Requirements

Summary of Major Functions:

  • Assists the Director of Resident Engagement with planning and implementation of resident activity programs on a daily basis.

Education:

  • High school diploma, GED or educational equivalent required.

Experience:

  • Previous experience working with older adults and/or persons with memory-impairing diseases is desirable

Qualifications:

  • One year related experience
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
  • Must enjoy working with the senior population

Other:

  • Must have valid driver license, good driving record, and current auto insurance.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Must be comfortable working in an environment with pets and assisting in the care of community pets, including, but not limited to, dogs, cats, and birds.
  • Willing to demonstrate passion and ability to work with people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia-related disease.
  • We are going to do 3 days a week and 4 days a week and rotate days and weekends so we have 7 day a week coverage. 

  • This will be for our Generations program, so dementia experience is preferred.
