We are seeking an experienced Controller who shares our philosophy of individualized compassionate care to join our growing team and direct the financial affairs of the Company.

This position will be based out of our beautiful corporate support center offices located in downtown Carlsbad & the Controller will report to our CFO.

The Controller is responsible for directing financial affairs of the Company using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), including general ledger, financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable, business office, billing and reimbursement, credit and collections, and other financial matters as directed by the Chief Financial Officer. Reports to:  Chief Financial Officer

Key Responsibilities:

•         Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct the financial accounting of the communities and the Company in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

•         Recommend, develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures and systems to meet company objectives, improve its overall operation and effectiveness and ensure appropriate internal controls are in place.  Perform on-going analysis of accounting procedures and responsibilities to ensure best practices are followed.

•         Direct the production of accurate and timely monthly and year-end financial statements.  Prepare financial analysis and recommendations as requested by Executive Team.  Assist communities and owners in interpreting and utilizing the financial data.

•         Serve as a liaison between the company/communities and owners, owners’ accountants, lenders, banks, insurance companies, etc. as it relates to providing and explaining financial information.

•         Responsible for oversight of cash flow analysis and cash management for all communities.

•         Directly manage the Company’s accounting staff and its activities.

•         Review the performance and accuracy of accounting personnel and make any necessary adjustments, including counseling, discipline, or termination.  Document all review and disciplinary activities.

•         Ensure proper internal controls and safeguarding of assets for all communities and the Company. 

•         Responsible for accounting policies and procedures, ensuring SOX compliance requirements are adequately addressed and implemented.

•         Serve as the contact/administrator for the accounting system software, in partnership with VP of Accounting & Finance, working closely with the vendor during software installation, troubleshooting and on-going maintenance.  Assume the lead role during initial transition period ensuring a smooth transition and adequate staff training for any system changes.

Job Requirements

Apply today if your background includes:

•         Passion for working with seniors

•         5+ years as a Controller, managing large accounts

•         Strong written and verbal communication skills 

•         Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or business administration with a major in accounting. 

•         Minimum of five years’ experience in a Controller position with supervisory responsibilities. 

•         System conversion experience preferred.

•         Previous Senior Living Community experience preferred

•         Strong organizational skills
